IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation

Automation obr

Many of our enterprise clients build their solutions on robust tools capable of meeting their daily challenges in a demanding business environment. But it’s not just about automating processes, it’s also about making them easy to implement and sustainable over time.

At TIP IT Solutions, we are aware of the complexity of this task, which is why we focus on monitoring trends in the rapidly changing technology market, conducting a detailed analysis of our corporate clients’ needs and helping them define and meet their planned goals. We leverage the experience our consultants have accumulated over years of working on similar projects on a daily basis with the main goal = to successfully design and implement a solution that will be able to keep pace with your company’s growth and allow you to focus on business.

Long-term collaboration with our partners gives us the insight and freedom to choose reliable tools that will be able to keep up with the environment in which our clients operate and achieve their business results and strategies on a daily basis.

As part of our collaboration with IBM, we are excited about the recent additions to the Cloud Pak for Business Automation family portfolio, which includes automation, process management and business rules products that were originally in the RedHat portfolio. Specifically, these products are Process Automation Manager (PAM), Decision Manager (DM) and Kogito, which we describe in general terms later on this page. The announced change will allow IBM to cover automation needs where the high complexity of robust/enterprise solutions is not required, or where a more programmer-centric approach to delivery is preferred over these platforms. This now allows us to better “tailor” solutions to the customer, just by leveraging IBM’s broader portfolio in the Business Automation family.

Automation with IBM makes sense for us. Thanks to our broad portfolio, we can cover all customer requirements, including direct local vendor support.

What is IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation?

IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation is a modular set of integrated software components, built for use in any hybrid cloud and designed to automate tasks / accelerate business growth. The E2E (end-to-end) platform helps companies analyze existing workflow, design applications enriched with artificial intelligence (AI) elements with low-code tools, assign tasks such as robots (RPA) and track growing efficiency.

Process Automation Manager (PAM)

Red Hat® Process Automation Manager is an advanced tool that includes: business rules management, process engines with support for complex event processing, case management, and a resource optimization engine.

Features and benefits

Business modelling

Everything business users need to model flows and policies: business process models and notations (BPMN), decision modeling tools and notations (DMN), and domain-specific rule languages.

Cloud-native development

Develop in the cloud, run in the cloud – while deploying finished models as containerized microservices on Red Hat OpenShift. In addition to the cloud environment, the solution can of course also be implemented on-premise. Optionally, you can also develop on your own infrastructure.

Powerful Rules engine

Take full advantage of the capabilities of the Drools solution, a powerful and widely used open source Rules engine.

Resource optimization

Solve complex optimization problems with the built-in resource management tool.

Open source

This tool is Open source with IBM enterprise support options and fully compatible with extended technologies such as git & maven. Of course, it is also compatible with BPMN2 and DMN1.2.

Modern user experience

Use the application manager to quickly develop modern, device-independent user interfaces.

Decision Manager (DM)

A cloud-native approach to creating business rules and services to support decision making. Agile rule development with Decision Manager is a fast, simple, business rules and decision management platform. The platform allows developers and other users to develop, applications, services and systems built on top of those rules – with the application of an agile approach. Decision Manager also provides a versatile set of decision-making capabilities, including a rules engine based on the PHREAK algorithm (an evolution of the well-known Rete algorithm), and is compatible with DMN v1.3. It supports intelligent process decision-making using Predictive Model Markup Language (PMML) and a process engine for evaluating complex events.

Features and Benefits

Decision-making applications based on Kogito

Learn how to use the brand new Kogito-based Decision Manager to create and run your decision. Create atomic rules and decision services based on the Quarkus Java framework and benefit from increased efficiency thanks to Kogito code generation and Quarkus hot-reload features.

Drools-based rule engine

Leverage the “power” of Drools, a popular open source business rules engine, in your design. Decision Manager provides a high-performance and scalable rules execution module. The PHREAK algorithm then provides a real-time environment that can easily scale to hundreds of thousands of rules in a single environment.

Decision Model and Notation (DMN)

DMN (Decision Model and Notation) is a relatively new standard, managed by the Object Management Group (OMG), also behind BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation). Decision Manager is the first open source DMN v1.3 runtime to support the full FEEL 3 conformance level of the DMN specification.

Business Optimizer

Business Optimizer (aka OptaPlanner) provides an easy-to-use framework for creating solutions in standard Java. Loaded with templates and ready-to-use reference applications, Decision Manager provides a platform for automating almost any type of planning problem.

Agile development

Decision Manager provides tools that target all users. The VSCode plugin allows developers to create decisions using the DMN specification and test them using an intuitive test scenario simulation tool. Because the service is built on technologies like Git and Maven, it allows developers to easily integrate Decision Manager with existing CI/CD technologies and methodologies built on Tekton Pipelines, Jenkins, SonarQube, and OpenShift.

Cloud-native approach

The development of a native cloud solution focuses on creating lightweight, stateless microservices that provide powerful interfaces (APIs) deployed in container environments using development practices based on DevOps and Continuous Delivery methodologies.

Decision Manager is the first business rules and decision management platform that fully fits into the native cloud paradigm
